Warriors Senior Men have a long and rich history of National League success, having won our way up from local league all the way through to Division 1 status in former years.
A brief 2 year hiatus from men's competitions, which saw the club re-focus on junior development, has meant the club had to start again from the bottom (Division 4) in 2007 and win our way up the divisions once more.
With player/coach (and former England International) Junior Williams at the helm, Warriors were quick to show their pedigree, winning the Division 4 South title in their first attempt then winning the Division 3 title the following year. Back-to-back seasons of success landed the mens team back in National League Division 2, now with their sights firmly set on promotion to Division 1 amongst the countries top National League competition.
Head coach Junior Williams is widely regarded as one of the best in the business, winning Coach Of The Year last year, in addition to a growing number of accolades this season for his work around player development. It comes as no surprise that he has the Warriors mens program heading in the right direction, as his attention to detail and expectation of excellence is second to none.
On the court, Williams steers the back court alongside Jackson Gibbons, Jermaine Purcell and Patrick Avorkliyah all taking turns running the point. The wings are filled by athletic veteran 'Marvellous' Marvin Addy, free-scoring Jon Jay Johnson and 3 point young-gunners Luke Baker and Henry Wilkens.
The frontcourt is anchored by athletic big man Warren Adams, veteran Damian Harris and new signing Jeremy Bennett (6'9"). Perhaps the 'x-factors' of the Warriors teams this season come in the form of 3 outstanding athletes: Yannick Bulambwe (6'5), Karolis Stepanavicius (6'6) and Mantas (6'4). The athletic trio all have the ability to play above the rim and make the Warriors a tough match up for any opponent at the National League level. Rounding out the Warriors mens team, as usual, is a healthy influx from the Warriors Junior progam: Eliandro Inacio, Leon Bennett-Harris, Mostapha Alfaki and Ryan Martin all play key roles on the men's team, gaining valuable experience in the process.
"We've got a good group of guys who all work hard in practise and do everything I ask, so you can't ask for much more than that. As long as we continue to improve, I fully expect great things from this group as the talent is there. We just need to blend that talent while staying true to our philosophy of bringing through the next generation of players from our junior program" Williams commented.
For players looking for a team who play the right way, fundamentally sound, well organised and disciplined in approach, Coach Williams is always on the lookout for players who can add to the mix, "I'm always on the lookout for good players who can help us get better. Especially if they're 6'6" and above!" he concluded.
